Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Hidden Features That Outshine AI

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra launched in January with a lot of buzz surrounding its AI innovations like Circle to Search and language translation. But after using the phone as my daily driver for three months, I’ve found that the true stars of the device are the less-hyped features.

While the AI tools are impressive, what really surprised me are the hardware and software capabilities that elevate the S24 Ultra beyond its specs on paper. Let’s dive into what makes this phone stand out, especially when it comes to the hidden gems that don’t always make headlines.

1. The Display Hero


Sure, the Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts a 200-megapixel camera, but what I use most—without fail every day—is the anti-reflective display. Samsung may have downplayed the significance of this feature, but it’s a game changer, especially outdoors. Whether I’m snapping photos or watching videos under the sun, the screen remains perfectly visible, unlike many other flagship phones.

I’ve compared it to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Google Pixel 8 Pro, and even last year’s S23 Ultra—and the S24 Ultra easily takes the win when it comes to cutting down glare. The screen’s Gorilla Armor coating not only reduces reflections but is also incredibly resistant to scratches. After three months of use, the display is still spotless, a far cry from my old S22 Ultra, which had scratches just weeks in.

2. AI Features: Circle to Search Steals the Show

While the Galaxy S24 Ultra is packed with AI tools, for me, the standout is Circle to Search. I use this feature constantly, whether it’s searching for something on a webpage or identifying objects in the camera app. It’s quick, intuitive, and easily my favorite AI tool on the phone. Other AI features, like the shadow and reflection eraser or the rotating canvas, are useful but are now available on older models like the S23 Ultra and Z Fold 5.

That said, Gemini AI—Samsung’s answer to Google Assistant—has been a pleasant surprise. While it still struggles to understand my Australian accent during voice commands, I’ve found it more reliable than I initially expected.

3. Camera Capabilities: Great

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is known for its zoom, but this time around, the camera feels a little less exciting than in previous models. The 5x optical zoom works well, but I miss the flexibility of the 10x optical zoom from earlier Galaxy phones. The new hybrid zoom just doesn’t match up to the precision of a full optical zoom, especially when it comes to shooting detailed images at 10x or more.

For casual use, the 30x zoom delivers solid results, but the 100x zoom often makes photos look too much like watercolor paintings for my taste. It’s still a strong camera system, but it’s not the standout feature it once was.

4. Quick Share: A Daily Essential

One feature that I rely on daily is Quick Share, Samsung’s file-sharing tool. Whether I’m sending high-resolution photos to friends or transferring files between my phone and work devices, Quick Share is seamless. It even works across platforms, allowing me to move files from Android to iOS and Mac without a hitch. The ability to share files via QR codes or URLs has been incredibly convenient.


Final Thoughts:

After living with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for three months, it’s clear that the device’s hidden features have exceeded my expectations. While the AI tools are helpful, they’re not what has made the phone stand out in my daily use. Instead, it’s the anti-reflective display, improved scratch resistance, and Quick Share that have made a lasting impact.

If you’re considering the S24 Ultra, don’t let the AI focus overshadow the other features that make this phone a joy to use. As future updates like Android 15 roll out, I’m looking forward to seeing what else Samsung has in store for this powerhouse device.
